The Tamara, Honduras AguaClara plant began operation in 2008. The Tamara plant has been regularly updated by the Tamara water board to incorporate the latest AguaClara technologies. For the high-value service of safe drinking water on tap, each household is willing and able to pay $5 per month because safe tap water reduces other household expenses. By providing a highly valued service, the water board is able to charge a higher tariff and use those funds to gradually improve their water infrastructure. The Tamara water board has added a large water storage tank, stacked rapid sand filters, and updated the clarifier to be self-cleaning.
